Lane Office Announces Winners of the DIRTT • Mogens Smed Grant for the School of Visual Arts

NEW YORK, NY – January 12, 2010 – Winners of the DIRTT • Mogens Smed Grant for the School of Visual Arts were announced at an awards presentation held at Lane Office Tuesday. Winners were selected based on a design competition open to all undergraduate School of Visual Arts students.

Students were invited to submit a workplace environment design incorporating DIRTT walls. Submissions were judged by a team of industry professionals, including Gregory F. Burke, president of Lane Office.

The winning designs, by Erin McDaniel and Kyoungmin Lee, were selected based on their creative and effective use of ICE®, a revolutionary design specification software.

Ms. Lee’s design features a dramatic black and rust-colored entrance created with geometrically arranged DIRTT mullions. The space includes spacious teaming areas delineated by DIRTT glass walls, and colorful furniture selections.

Ms. McDaniel’s design stars DIRTT Mondrian feature walls in the reception area. The unique walls angle toward the workspace, inviting visitors and staff inside. DIRTT solid and glass walls were used to create private meeting areas within an otherwise open workspace.

Lane Office sponsored the grant and competition to introduce designers to ICE, and to identify innovative ways to utilize the software. Both winners will receive $2,500 toward tuition for the Spring semester.

Mr. Burke is proud to support aspiring design students and was impressed with the submissions. “The entries we received were remarkable. Students today are comfortable with technology – they picked up ICE quickly and came up with cool designs,” he said.
